The left-wing violence that burned down cities around the country but that were particularly violent in the Midwest cities of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Kenosha, Wisconsin were accompanied by large numbers of Americans declaring their fealty to "woke" ideology by kneeling in protest.
Most shocking among these were photographs of FBI agents -- who should be impartial law enforcement personnel -- smiling and giving thumbs up in photographs showing them kneeling in protest. For many, this signaled that the FBI was not impartial.
These worries were compounded when the agency was used to investigate and intimidate conservatives and Christians during the Biden administration. As Senator Chuck Grassley noted in a June 2, 2025 letter to current FBI Director Kash Patel, under Director Christopher Wray and Biden Attorney General Garland a memo targeting Catholics had been distributed to 12 field offices and was "disseminated in the FEESUM email distro to more than 1000 individuals in the FBI on 2 February 2023."
That memo said in its subject line that there were "Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists [interested] in Radical-Traditionalist Catholic ideology" and that this "Almost Certainly Presents New Mitigation Opportunities."
Incredibly, FBI documentation revealed by Grassley noted that in response to getting the anti-Catholic memo, "No one contacted FBI ... with concerns, suggestions, or negative feedback related to the product." Even more incredibly the FBI "only received positive input regarding the importance of further outreach and external dissemination of the intelligence to mitigate the threat...."
Clearly the FBI was strongly ideologically aligned with the political leftwing and biased against other Americans. Nothing more sharply demonstrated this than photos of agents kneeling to George Floyd.
Since the beginning of the new Trump administration, the Bureau's new leadership under Kash Patel has taken corrective steps to remove leftwing ideological operatives from the organization.
The UK Daily Mail has called this a "broader effort" by Patel "to root out what the president has called "woke" and politicized elements within the bureau."
The UK tabloid notes that "Five agents and top-level executives were known to have been summarily fired last month in a wave of ousters that current and former officials say has contributed to declining morale."
As to that declining morale, could this be the result of leftwing activists within the Bureau realizing that their incipient reign of terror of normal Americans has come to an end and their careers on the fast lane to the dustbin of history?
Now, next to be fired, are those agents pictured kneeling to George Floyd.
In April, the Daily Mail reported that some of the agents pictured had been reassigned. "At least four had been in senior roles, including in counterterrorism, counterintelligence and cybercrimes, when they learned in recent days they would be reassigned," the paper said.
Now, many of those agents have been fired.
"The number of FBI employees fired was not immediately clear, but two people said it was roughly 20," the Daily Mail reported.
In his letter to Director Patel outlining his concerns about the Bureau's targeting of Catholics, Senator Grassley, who is Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, concluded: "I look forward to continuing to work with you to restore the FBI to excellence and prove once again that justice can and must be fairly and evenly administered, blind to whether we are Democrats or Republicans, believers or nonbelievers."
The firings of ideologically motivated agents who were active in the Bureau during the Biden administration seems to be a step forward toward the restoration called for by Senator Grassley.
